The second single taken from their eagerly anticipated new album is the gloriously titled ‘I Only Want Want You For Your Rock And Roll’.
Following on from where their last single ‘Black and White’ left us – in a sweaty and delirious heap on the dance floor; ‘I Only Want Want You For Your Rock And Roll’ is also bold and assured. It taps straight into the life vein of primal, energized, intoxicating and lustful Rock and Roll.
This is ‘Shake Appeal’ on The Stooges ‘Raw Power’, ‘Surfin Bird’ by Trashmen and John Lennon’s filthy, fuzzed up guitar on ‘Revolution’, driving it until the fingers bleed and the strings snap with unbridled tension.
‘I Only Want Want You For Your Rock And Roll’ might be the sound of the desk going into the red but it is also a love song. A love song celebrating carnal and spiritual desire. As Matt Evans, the band’s singer, explains: “I wrote the song on the day I proposed to my wife and it was an early wedding present for her”.
Musically KEYS wanted to do “the simplest, dumbest, directest song” possible that could still grab your soul. They succeeded.
