25 Albums in 25 Days – Ein Heit: THE LIGHTNING AND THE SUN, by Tom Kipp

I’ve been nominated by my brilliant pal Chris Estey to post 25 albums in 25 days that have had a major CREATIVE impact on me—just album covers without any explanation—and to nominate a different person each day to do the same.

Today I nominate: Tracy Wilson

Day 8:

Ein Heit: THE LIGHTNING AND THE SUN (Temporary Freedom cd, 1997)
Album never issued on vinyl (or reissued on cd), though there HAVE been murmurings about that in recent years!

Tom Kipp

Ein Heit: “Before” (1997)

Marc Marshall: Where is the Rhino inspired box set replete with outtakes, alternate mixes, rare photos and the usual sundry band paraphernalia (promo stickers, signed and stolen motel towels, buttons, tour schedules etc.?)

Tom Kipp: Marc, I’d happily settle for an expanded Light In The Attic Records or Comedy Minus One reissue of THE LIGHTNING AND THE SUN on cd and LP, coupled with a first-time release of the splendid 75-minute compilation I put together several years ago from our Missoula prime, which I intend(ed) to call CLEAR THE ROOM! ARCHIVAL EIN HEIT (1983-87)!
The compiled live material and 4-track demos complement our belated 1997 album, much the way Joy Division’s STILL does their proper albums, UNKNOWN PLEASURES and CLOSER!”

And there are plenty of great posters, photos, gig programs, set lists, and articles to properly flesh out said releases in terms of documentation, but I got nowhere when I made overtures a while back, alas.

Oh well, hope springs eternal re: Montana Postpunk finally gettin’ its due, and the joint 2LP/cd/dvd, multi-artist project from Dave Martens and Kirk Leclaire (expected around the start of 2020) may well heat up interest once again in what I’ve referred to for several decades now as “The Rocket from the Tombs of the Eighties!“!

To illustrate further, here’s a very charming shot of Andrew Cohen, Joel RL Phelps, and me setting up for our show in the actual chapter meeting room of the Missoula Elks Lodge, in January 1986, shortly after Andy, Tim Midyett, and drummer extraordinaire Ben Koostra joined our ranks:

Note the gorgeous “Elk clock” at the upper-center of the frame!
