I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting for prog metal from Portugal for a long time. Who doesn’t love Portugal? (Maybe Spain). I and many others love Portugal and these gentlemen do their country proud because at the two minute mark into this album stream, they have included Isaac Asimov reading the ending to his best short story ever, “The Last Question” (an audio reading of the story is included below). All Asimov and Sci Fi fans should listen to this Portugese prog metal band for that reason and for the muscular power-artisan sounds that are at the heart of every song they play. The Far Star is a concept album. A tight sci-fi short story accompanies the album and each track is a chapter of that great story.
Apotheus are a metal act based in Portugal.
The group was founded in 2008 and after recording some demos, they finally hit the studio for their EP “A Quest to Remain” in 2011. After some live shows, the band perfected their sound with their first full-length “When Hope And Despair Collide” in 2013.
Fast-forward to 2019, after a lot of national touring and other original works, Apotheus made an international breakthrough signing with Black Lion Records (Sweden) who released their album “The Far Star” on the 31st of October, 2019. The record was recorded at Redbox Studios and mixed and mastered by Jorge Lopes.
With “The Far Star” Apotheus take a completely different approach with this being their first conceptual album. After years of polishing the concept, preparing the live show, blending melodies with the story and emotion, “The Far Star” is now presented at its fullest.
