Moving to London 6 years ago – Marie Dahlstrom is now well known for her warm, ethereal jazz/soul/R&B amalgam. Following previous releases with the likes of Tom Misch and Alfa Mist, the past 12 months have seen Marie writing and producing the songs that would eventually form her long-awaited debut album.
Brought up on some of soul and R&B’s greats; recalling the likes of Edwyn Collins, Womack & Womack and Gloria Gaynor being on regular rotation in her family home in Roskilde, Dahlstrom also cites the discoveries of Dwele, Dire Straits, Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin and Fleetwood Mac in her teenage years as key points of inspiration in her musical upbringing.
Recorded between LA, Copenhagen and London – her new material features collaborations with the likes of South London soul singer James Vickery, California based songwriter and producer Jeremy Passion, Brooklyn based singer/producer Elijah Fox, British guitarist Beau Diako – and more.
Previously supported and praised by the likes of Billboard, NYLON, Complex, and Wonderland Magazine, as well as radio airplay from BBC 1Xtra DJ’s Jamz Supernova, DJ Target, Toddla T and Rinse FM’s Jyoty, Marie has been patient with her career – carefully plotting and building towards her first full length body of work.
“Music is my identity,” says Marie. “It’s what I’m most proud of. I hope there will be something for everyone with these new songs, and I hope that people will find comfort, and maybe feel more of themselves whilst they listen.”
Marie Dahlstrom’s new single ‘Through Your Eyes’ is out now, and she plays a headline show at London’s Bermondsey Social Club on March 5th. Dahlstrom’s debut album is expected in 2020. |
