China is urging the US to cancel a meeting between Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama. This has gotten me thinking.
If we’d only paid attention to MacArthur and dropped a bomb or two on these bastards, they wouldn’t be beatin’ up monks, imprisoning dissenters and executing retarded people today. But then who would loan us money?
The events of the first 50 years of the last century continue to amaze me. Can you imagine, in today’s political climate, telling our (then and now) fascist-leaning country we’re backing Russia against the Nazis, and less than five years later the Germans are de facto allies against the Russians. We semi-secretly go to bat for China (not for humanitarian reasons; for big business) against the also-empire-building Japanese, get the Japanese all paranoid and then you know what happened. And then, 10 years later, the Chinese are kickin’ our asses in Korea. If I fought in either of these wars, I’d be pretty goddamn bitter. At least there was “glory” involved in beatin’ Hitler’s and Tojo’s balls; I know of more than one Korean War veteran who put away his uniform as soon as he got home and found out he wasn’t very popular.
Just think, there are many people alive who survived Korea, only to have our government sell us out to the Chinese – literally.
What would the reaction be if President Obama announced tomorrow that Al-Qaeda was our new ally against Iran?
You can discuss China all you want, but there is nothing that we can do about it. We’re done. They can invade Taiwan tomorrow if they wanted, and no one can do anything about it. You can’t very well beat up your loan shark. China has a bizillion people with nowhere to go but out. Going to be dicey, internal stability wise, with all the Western influence and expanding economy. Good luck on the pollution angle. And we can’t do a thing about any of that, either.
Heck, they just executed a British National who everyone agreed was developmentally disabled for heroin smuggling; apparently he got duped into it. Half hour trial.
Recent administrations act like they wield some influence – just a show for the cameras. Our capitalism has resulted in the biggest sellout in the history of the world. And the Dalai Lama knows it better than anyone.
If I see another “China Urges U.S. to cancel meeting with Dalai Lama” headline in my lifetime, I’m gonna puke. First of all, what else is China going to say? Secondly, what would the President and the Dalai Lama talk about? The weather? A complete waste of time. We don’t give a rat’s ass about him or Tibet, we support Tibet’s oppressors. The Dalai Lama keeps missing the memo. Nice photo op, though.
A fine mess we’re in.
