Lotte Pen releases her delicious, pensive, ‘Wanderer’

This single is part of her debut album – ‘PELGRIM’, which will be released sometime in April. Sounds were improvised on alto sax and accompanied by melodies on the Holtgräve organ from Deventer. The purpose of the music is to journey you through a cinematic musical landscape, “where minor and major chords alternate to end in a celebration of optimism” says Lotte Pen.

Lotte is part of a new generation of classical musicians. An award-winning saxophonist and composer, she has performed in concert halls in Tokyo, Berlin, Paris and New York. Before participating in a number of bands and projects, she followed a classical conservatory training that she found inspiring, but also limiting. She says: “What I’ve learned from pop music is the freedom you can embrace, and that you don’t have the responsibility to abide by the unwritten laws of classical antiquity.”

Lotte found musical inspiration in two strong women from the 12th and 13th centuries: the mystic, scientist and composer Hildegard von Bingen and mystic and writer Hadewych.

Lotte Pen has been selected as the best producer from East Netherlands for the talent development project ‘Nieuwe Electronic Waar 2018’ and her track ‘Tabernacle’ was picked up by an Italian documentary maker, who used it as a soundtrack. She also composed music for children’s dance club De Stilte and the literary festival Het Tuinfeest in Deventer. In addition, Lotte Pen has performed live several times in Theater Bouwkunde and the Vondelpark in Amsterdam.
