Isabel LaRosa has a lot to celebrate. In addition to inking a deal with RCA Records, the breakout alt-pop artist is finally dropping her three-song EP, i’m watching you, and its accompanying video trilogy.
i’m watching you is available on all platforms now.
LaRosa has already teased us this year with the release of her first two singles, “HAUNTED” and “HELP,” both of which amassed millions of listens and views and garnered LaRosa a loyal, cult-like following. In conjunction with the release of i’m watching you, LaRosa is also releasing the track and the video for her third single, “HEAVEN,” officially completing the video trilogy.
“’HEAVEN’ describes what it’s like to watch your friends and everyone else around you use drugs and alcohol to escape the aspects of their lives that they’re afraid of,” explains LaRosa. “The song gives a glimpse into the weekend house parties that every teenager uses to distract themselves from real life.”
As you may recall, LaRosa’s first single “HAUNTED” is about leaving a toxic relationship or friendship, while her second single, “HELP” attempts to describe what it’s like to give to everyone around and never get anything in return. Early Rising called “HELP” “transcendent, dark, and innately explorative,” while Alfitude raved that LaRosa creates, “a bold, haunting and intensely gripping approach to dark pop that sounds like nothing else you may have come across.”
In addition to writing all three singles, LaRosa wrote the treatments for and co-directed each video, which fit together into a short film.
“The videos follow a girl walking home alone at night initially unaware of being closely pursued by an unknown figure,” shares LaRosa. “The visuals for the trilogy were inspired by my love of horror and suspense films, specifically Stranger Things and the short films Lights Out and FryDay.”
Born in Annapolis, MD, LaRosa has music running through her DNA. Her father, a jazz musician, regularly took her to the jazz clubs where he played the saxophone and her brother played guitar. Inspired by her family, LaRosa began songwriting with her brother Thomas in elementary school and they soon formed a creative duo. Presently, LaRosa still writes and produces music with her brother as she works to finish high school online.
LaRosa’s sound is a unique blend of electric, bedroom-pop, indie pop, and other variations of the genre. LaRosa’s visuals are inspired by thriller, horror, and sci-fi movies and television shows, and provide the backdrop to her hand-crafted sonic universe.
Stay tuned for more music from Isabel LaRosa coming soon.
