Portland doctor, David Wakeling, MD, “begrudgingly admits that accordion lessons as a child helped fuel his passion for music.” For that he thanks his Mom and Dad.
He also states that his influences “vary widely and include Steely Dan, Todd Rundgren, The Tragically Hip, Little Feat and most things 80s.” Further, he is “a sucker for harmonies and a good story,”
When asked how he feels about the 80s music of the other Dave Wakeling, the one of the English Beat and General Public, Portland’s Wakeling says, “Oh THAT Dave Wakeling. I am pretty sure he would never of had the success he had if he hadn’t based his entire career on my beats, my creativity and my name. He just has been riding my coattails for years.”
As for this new song, “between global warming, continued mass shootings, politicians holding on to power for power’s sake, dictators killing innocents… yeah, kinda hate everybody.”
