With subtle shout-outs to fellow Nordic artists, Yung Lean and Varnrable, the Copenhagen newcomer tells a story of being pushed over the edge, introducing his dreamy alt-pop universe on a solid hip hop beat
HONEST and FREE. These are the musical and emotional parameters that merge together when Wili Solo gets creative. ‘Stainless’ is his first ever 2 minutes and 23 seconds of music.
“It’s about the frustration of being completely stuck in life. Stuck inside yourself, between your dreams and desires, with no chance to see all the possibilities right in front of you. ‘Stainless’ was written at a time when I couldn’t but eagerly wanted to turn everything upside down and reset my life. It represents a desperate last call and how I pushed myself over the edge to become braver and more confident because I actually listened to myself,” Wili Solo tells.
‘Stainless’ is a vulnerable rollercoaster ride, where confidence seems to bloom for one moment, only to be crushed the next. The soundscape alternates freely between spherical guitars and electronic hip hop beats, while Wili Solo makes subtle lyrical shout-outs to the Swedish rap artist, Yung Lean, and experimental Norwegian-Ethiopian producer, Varnrable.
Wili Solo has been in and out of various creative constellations for the last years, making ‘Stainless’ an important personal milestone. A whole album is on the way – created without thinking of tendencies or preconceptions of how a song should sound or where it should go. It’s just HONEST and FREE.
