ALICE IVY CONJURES A SUMMER DREAM ON ‘WILDLIFE’

Australia’s Alice Ivy basks in the summer glow now (because December is summer season in Australia) with her latest single ‘Wildlife’, lifted from her next studio album Do What Makes You Happy out in 2024 via Helix RecordsLISTEN + WATCH HERE.

Co-written with Pip Norman (Baker Boy, Troye Sivan) and multi-platinum Dutch singer-songwriter DotanAlice Ivy’s playful new single ‘Wildlife’ marks the return of the producer-songwriter’s own vocals on a whole verse since her debut album – whistling included. As immersive as it is wistful, ‘Wildlife’ captures the bottleneck rush of the summer season: moments sand-clad amongst salt breezes seeking cool-quenching reprieve.

Inspired by Empire Of The Sun, Alice shares “I love the blend of acoustic and electronic elements in the production, it reminds me of long drives with the windows down in the Australian summer.” Penned as a “happy little accident,” the track basks in Ivy’s ongoing ability to arrange an invigorating cast of collaborators across all her compositions including guest vocals recorded by Rest For The Wicked’s Ben Townsend and drums tracked by Sean Hutchinson of Bleachers.

Lifting the curtain on ‘Wildlife’s genesis, Alice Ivy explains “I share a beautiful studio overlooking the Merri Creek in Melbourne with Pip and one day we decided to do some writing together and see what we could come up with. We started out sampling my Omnichord (which you can hear all over my new album), added some acoustic guitar and got a cool little vibe going. Then we went into the archives and salvaged an old chorus from a song Pip had started with the incredible Dotan. I tweaked the melody and it worked like magic!

“We re-wrote the verses and I called on my friend Ben Townshend who I met when I co-produced a song for his band, because I thought the tone of his voice would be perfect. For the finishing touch, I contacted one of my all-time favourite drummers, Sean from Bleachers (who’s drum packs I’ve used all over my project in the past). It was a bit of a reach, but to my surprise and complete excitement Sean said yes! Despite all of the moving parts, this song came together really organically and quickly!”

Wildlife’ follows Alice Ivy’s recent smash ‘Broke My Heart ft. Mallrat and Jelani Blackman’, received to critical acclaim across Wonderland, The Line Of Best Fit, Mix Mag, Rolling Stone, The Guardian and many more including triple j and iHeart Australia rotation and amongst her highest ever daily streams on debut, DSP support including Spotify’s Oracle, crush, Pop n’ Fresh, NMF AU and UK, through to Apple’s Chilltronics, Vibes, Wildflower and covers across TikTok Music’s Down Bad, and Amazon’s Down Under playlists amongst many more.

The latest preview of her upcoming record Do What Makes You Happy arriving in 2024, Alice Ivy’s third studio album was pieced together over the last year amidst sessions spent across the US. Boasting an extension of her enhanced production prowess, all star cast of features that already include GRAMMY-winning Mayer Hawthorne, indie princess Mallrat and the UK’s next big thing Jelani Blackman, the anticipation of where Alice Ivy’s curatorial ear will strike next follows her long cemented status as a sought-after songwriter, producer and engineer with accolades accumulating since her 2018 debut I’m Dreaming. Now Alice Ivy’s sights are set for the global stage.
