What is your legacy going to be? What are you leaving behind for all the people that come into this world after you? These are questions that rapper-producer AY Young compels us to consider in his feature on “Lasting Legacy,” the official song of the COP28 climate conference (which commenced on November 30th and runs through December 12th in Expo City, Dubai, info at cop28.com).
The brainchild of GRAMMY-winning producer RedOne (Lady Gaga, Jlo, Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull, Usher, Marc Anthony, and the World Cup single “Dreamers”), “Lasting Legacy” features AY alongside international superstars Agnez Mo and G I M S.
Fresh off a historic renewable-powered Times Square concert, AY continues to throw his shoulder behind the wheel of humanity’s bid to preserve our future by preventing a climate catastrophe as he juggles multiple projects and initiatives.
AY was at the conference and appeared in a special group-presentation of the song, which you can watch here.
AY’s EP GOALS is due in 2024, setting the stage for his upcoming full-length Project 17, which consists of 17 tracks, each dedicated to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
On both the GOALS title track (listen / watch) and previous single “2030,” AY rouses our sense of duty towards stewardship of the earth. Both songs epitomize how AY understands that hope mixed with hooks can be the best motivator.
There’s something to be said about the power of being called to make music. But when that power combines with an unshakeable mission to change the world, the music becomes infused with an energy that’s undeniable. “Lasting Legacy” and COP28 are just the latest steps in AY Young’s tireless mission.
