December 15, 2023 – Today, burgeoning artist, skaiwater teams up with producer 9lives, and rising rapper midwxst for the release of “light” – a forthcoming track that explores the intricate themes of relationships and the underlying toxicity within. Over 9lives’ sparkling production, skai and mixwxst use their unique tones to share their relatable highs and lows. Together, the trio creates an ethereal anthem that seamlessly blends both turbulence and “light” to take listeners on a journey of the intricacies of love with their twist of artistic finesse. Listen to “light” HERE via Geffen/Good Talk.
“Light” arrives fresh on the heels of “emo hotel,” “good things” and “good things 2 ft. tana,” which garnered praise from Our Generation, and RIFF Magazine who admired the “hypnotic beat [that] draws your attention quickly and the slick lyrics…paired well with the syncopated delivery of the lyricists.” Listen HERE. This year skai also shared the dense and vibrant single “molli,” a moody yet fast-paced and infectious track that boasts the varied and far-flung elements fans of the multihyphenate have come to expect. A building year for the Nottingham-native, this year they also performed at festivals such as Music Midtown and Reading and Leeds. Prior to those efforts skaiwater first found a fandom on SoundCloud – they met Lil Nas X through the platform, became friends, and worked together on music — eventually garnering a writing credit on “Holiday.” This approach also garnered the attention of other collaborators, such as midwxst, who appeared on skaiwater’s single “Kamikaze Two,” the late Atlanta rapper Lil Keed, who added a verse to “Work!” from their first mixtape, Happy Hour. In 2022 Skai also released a 14-track mixtape, rave, which features “boys don’t cry” and “miles” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. The track and its remixes connected with fans, garnering over 20 million streams, hitting the Top 10 US Songs on TikTok and #38 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50.
