“Concert at Coco’s is a family party record inspired mostly by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, Trini Lopez, and that 90’s garage band from California called The Mummies. It was recorded live at Coco’s Marina in July 2023 with a big band and a small audience. I have been working hard on the follow-up to my album The Bear (and it’s gonna be a while) but in the meantime I wanted to drop off a little holiday gift – something you can listen to while making fruitcake or playing monopoly or whatever. Some humor, some heart, and some horror.”
Martin is joined by The Coco’s Marina House Band, featuring members Hiram Perkins (drums, backing vocals), Charlotte Eighmey (Farfisa organ, backing vocals), Asenath Vibbard (upright and electric bass), James D. King (guitar, backing vocals), Lovisa B. Stiles (guitar, saxophone, kazoo), Zeba Phillips (percussion, harmonica), and Jessie Hodges (piano, vibraphone, backing vocals).
Concert at Coco’s is Martin’s first new release since 2022’s critically acclaimed album The Bear, which Pitchfork called “bittersweet and impressionistic,” while also earning praises from NPR Music, Stereogum, and Paste among many others. Since then, Martin reunited with his bandmates from The Walkmen for a sold-out 2023 worldwide tour, their first live shows since announcing their hiatus in 2013, which included several back-to-back dates in NYC, Chicago, DC, London, and Los Angeles among others, as well as appearances at Austin City Limits and Boston Calling. Watch their first public performance in over a decade on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

ABOUT WALTER MARTIN:
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Walter Martin is a founding member of Jonathan Fire*Eater and The Walkmen, the influential indie rock band who helped pave the way for New York City’s rock and roll renaissance in the early 2000s. In 2014, he launched a solo career and has subsequently released eight studio albums: two Parents’ Choice Award winning family albums (2014’s We’re All Young Together and 2017’s My Kinda Music), four critically acclaimed albums for adults (2016’s Arts & Leisure, 2018’s Reminisce Bar & Grill, 2020’s The World at Night, and 2022’s The Bear), and two collections of unreleased songs released in March 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world (Common Prayers and Green Beans & Tangerines). He’s earned widespread critical acclaim from The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, Vice, The Atlantic, Pitchfork, Vogue, USA Today, The Guardian, Stereogum, Consequence, Paste, SPIN, and Billboard among many others. In addition to making his albums, Martin creates original music and songs for film and television, including the original song “Do-Dilly-Do (A Friend Like You)” for Missing Link, The Golden Globes’ 2020 winner for Best Animated Feature. His songs written for the Cheerios’ “Right on Tracks” campaign earned him a 2020 Clio Award and a 2020 Cannes Lion Award. Additionally, his songs have been featured in TV advertising campaigns for Apple, Google, Facebook and other major companies including the first TV advertising campaign for TikTok in 2020. Martin co-wrote songs with Matt Berninger (The National) for his 2020 solo album Serpentine Prison and worked again with him and Phoebe Bridgers on the song “Walking on a String” for the 2020 Zach Galifianakis feature film Between Two Ferns.
