Rubio, the artistic experiment of renowned Chilean artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Francisca Straube, releases a new visualizer for “Calla (Montoya Remix),” a song off her recent remix album Venus & Blue – RMX. Conceptualized by Rubio, the idea behind this project was to showcase new renditions of fan favorite tracks from her recent album, Venus & Blue. The project was produced in collaboration with critically acclaimed artists, producers, and DJ’s, from across Latin America, including Diego Raposo(Danny Ocean), Tayhana (Rosalia), Fallen Roses(Girl Ultra), Human Fader(Zoé)+ legomoustacheCERO39Quixosis, and Montoya.

The focus track, “Calla (Montoya Remix),” is a contrast to the original song, which has distinct sad overtones. Colombian producer/DJ, Montoya, gave the record a new life by reworking it into a tropical and danceable tune. “This remix is very tropical, and I never imagined that ‘Calla’ could sound like that. Montoya managed to turn up the vibes and make it danceable while still keeping the emotions in the song intact,”  shares Rubio.

Filmed in Mexico City and New York, the video stays true to the song’s dark mood, featuring black & white intercuts of Rubio. The director, Juan David Figueroa, shares “the visualizer presents a blurred dream that gets distorted every time you try to remember it, taking place in a liminal space. We travel through dark and mountainous roads, representing the emotional trajectory that one experiences when separating from someone who is no longer there.” Rubio added, “I find it interesting how three people, in this case Juan, Montoya, and I, can create something through Rubio and that’s beautiful. The visualizer created a story for the song, and generated a journey for the viewer.”
