On Opinion’s very first album, released in 2016, Hugo Carmouze was singing for the people in his head. Many garage, punk, psych, noise heroes had influenced an electric and incandescent music that was hard to believe had been recorded by a 14-year-old teenager deep in the countryside of France. In almost a decade, Opinion’s music has undergone several transformations, always guided by Carmouze’s creative madness, capable of producing triple albums, folk songs, selective collaborations, harsh- noise or black metal side-projects.
For his twelfth album Troisième Opinion, Hugo Carmouze has chosen to take his time and explore sounds that had been rare in his music until now, without worrying about whether they could be played live. This album, without losing the spontaneity and punk bursts of Carmouze’s signature sound, has a touch of timelessness. The tracks are often more stripped-down, moving away from confrontation towards a brighter nature, with a more openly embraced intimacy. This Troisième Opinion is also an opportunity for the songwriter to finally free himself from the shadows of his spiritual forefathers, achieving a personal and cohesive sound with a distinctive guitar-voice balance that is immediately recognizable.
