We were the Flintstones kids — ten million strong — the Pepsi Generation, born in the Age of Aquarius. For us, chia was a pet (as were rocks), not a food. We were going to manage the world better than our parents’ generation…. – Robert http://youtu.be/BzdHxqwTO-4
Summer is just around the corner and it is time to start making vacation plans. Will you be traveling to Portland? If not, why not? Portland has many things to entice tourists including proximity to Oregon scenery such as Crater Lake. Robert has compiled for you below some excellent photos of one of his trips …
I’ve lived outside the United States for eleven straight years now. When I open the Yahoo! front page, I invariably see stories about celebrities I’ve never heard of. If you live in the U.S., then you no doubt know who Lady Caga, Justin Beaver, Kesha, the Cardashboard-ians, Katie Perry and Kan Ye West are, but …
This is amazing, the most subtle, visionary use of bluegrass instrumentation which I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard a good deal. – EPB Oh Jesus. These guys were all toddlers when I was a punk/indie DJ in Charlottesville 20 years ago, and WNRN didn’t exist. The world keeps renewing itself. – Grant Cogswell (www.underthevolcanobooks.com) Haunting …

Here’s a great one! The Bollywood movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” (rough translation: “You Only Live Once”) is hugely popular in India right now. This song is blingual — Spanish and Hindi. It features a Spanish flamenco singer. – Robert http://youtu.be/Bo9MEM-LsX0
One of my all-time favorite songs. Video seems a bit dated (c. 1990), but song is timeless. “Vamos a sonar unos palos pa’ que me quiera por siempre. Voy a prender mi lucero pa’ que me quiera….” – Robert . http://youtu.be/oXGWR-P96Yg .
This song and accompanying video were huge hits when released as a scene from the 2008-09 Bollywood film “Luck By Chance.” The choreography is tight, and the circus performers (many Russian) turn this into a highly entertaining spectacle. The video still gets a lot of airplay on Indian television. Enjoy! – Robert
The Most Talented Singer-Songwriter You’ve Yet to Hear – Lorelei Carlson – Blueberry Eyes, By Robert
In June 2003 I decided to celebrate my birthday by inviting my friends to a music party. I was living with my nearly 12-year-old daughter Lorelei in Bogotá at the time. I had many talented musician friends, so my idea was to play and sing with them. Because Lorelei was really getting into singing, I …
Another video from the movie Bachna Ae Haseeno (“Be Careful With Me”), this song was filmed in Italy. So cool to see a song for a movie made by the country where we live now but filmed in the country of our last residence. – Robert
This is from a popular 2008 Bollywood movie titled Bachna Ae Haseeno (plot is outlined in Wikipedia). The music video is shown frequently on Indian television. Basically one guy is apologizing to his old girlfriend for hurting her and is making sure that she knows how much her husband (the Sikh guy) loves her. Coincidentally, …
I came across this article, “Why the United States Is Destroying Its Education System, and it got me thinking. https://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/04/11 U.S. Government policies have certainly weakened our education system — but to say it is being destroyed is an overstatement. I agree that our emphasis on rote learning, our de-funding of public libraries, our pursuit …
Seems like every year someone develops a new “hottest chile pepper in the world.” (“Chile” is the preferred spelling of Chile Pepper Magazine.) Many years ago, the habanero was the king. A couple years ago, the bhut jolokia was crowned the hottest. Recently, a Brit developed the naga viper, a hybrid. Now these Aussies claim …
This song has been the most popular song on Indian radio so far in 2011. It’s mostly in Hindi, but has lots of English. Lyrics are in the lower left. – Robert http://youtu.be/hcKtDXUb6Cg
Here’s one for ya. Kind of a weird song, partly spoken (with a Polish accent?). Seems to be kind of about the fall of the Iron Curtain, though I’m not completely sure… – Robert
