“Jagger and Johansen at the film premiere of ‘The Song Remains The Same’ in NYC, October 19th, 1976.” 47 years ago! And BOTH still actively performing. “Anthony Bourdain’s 20 Favourite Songs of the 1970s” (note: There are only 19!) ‘Pusher Man’: Curtis Mayfield‘Baby’s on Fire’: Brian Eno‘Bad Luck’: Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes‘Penetration’: Iggy …
A dizzying cavalcade of romanticism, literally a catalyst for orgasm around the world. Frejus, France, 1982. Roxy Music’s last tour for 19 years, promoting their new (and last) album, Avalon. More than ten years of evolution – some dramatic, some incremental – behind it. A frontman at the peak of his powers, a peak that …
A whole generation of bands copied them. If you’ve seen this before a million times in the 80’s, it’s only because you were late on Roxy Music. Here they are at their peak with “Both Ends Burning,” a single that was a hit in the UK, but went nowhere in the states, even though it …
“I wanna love you, but I’m getting blown away”… Haven’t seen this clip before… wow. Jorja Chalmers‘ beautiful sax, and Avalon-era guitarist Neil Hubbard’s blistering solo really punctuate a cover that Hubbard first recorded with Roxy over 35 years ago. No one puts together a better band for the studio or the stage than Bryan …

Though the Hall of Fame is a complete sham, I’m still strangely tickled when a slighted act (much less my favorite band that isn’t the Beatles) finally makes the nominee list. Without Roxy Music, much of the 1980s as I knew it wouldn’t have existed. Such an enormous influence; without Roxy, Duran Duran and umpteen …
Here’s a fantastic 26 minutes of latter day Roxy. The first tune is the fabulous “Dance Away,” with the immortal line “You’re dressed to kill and guess who’s dyin’?” The second tune is their Avalon-era cover of John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy.” Steve Stav, who viewed this particular tour in Vancouver, BC, called it, “awesome, mindblowing.”
The paradigm for the first two Duran Duran albums… This is the shit right here, it doesn’t get much cooler than this. – Steve Stav
Ian hunter on on rock n roll, Cleveland and how Mott the Hoople, Roxy Music and Bowie caught on first in the midwest… – John Petkovic and his band, Cobra Verde, enjoy life to the fullest in Cleveland, Ohio.
